Basheer 'Chacha' detained at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

The much-awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is all set to start on October 5 with a match between the last-time finalists.

Basheer 'Chacha' detained at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport

Basheer Chacha, a well-known enthusiast of Pakistan cricket, encountered an unusual circumstance on his visit to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad. Basheer, who possesses US citizenship, arrived to extend a cordial welcome to the Pakistan cricket team in anticipation of their preparatory match for the ICC Cricket World Cup.

As the clock neared 8 pm, the Pakistan squad emerged from the airport terminal, greeted by a fervent reception from their supporters. In the midst of the gathering, Basheer stood with great enthusiasm upon catching a glimpse of his cherished national cricket team, commonly referred to as the Men in Green. He displayed his solidarity by enthusiastically waving the national flag of Pakistan.

Nevertheless, the visual perception of the flag in motion captured the notice of the RGIA police, prompting them to expeditiously apprehend Basheer. Due to concerns over public safety, the individual in question was caught, resulting in a momentary disruption of the celebratory gathering.

Basheer Chacha, the ardent supporter, shown cooperation with the authorities subsequent to their elucidation of the misapprehension. The individual explicitly established his affiliation as an ardent advocate of the Pakistan cricket team, having undertaken a journey to India specifically for the purpose of attending the match. In an attempt to ameliorate the situation, he supplied his travel paperwork, tickets, and identity cards, so assuaging the concerns of the authorities.

After this minor setback, Basheer was subsequently released from detention, and the reception he received remained kind and supportive. In anticipation of the forthcoming Pakistan vs New Zealand encounter scheduled for September 29 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, comprehensive security protocols have been implemented.

A contingent of 200 police personnel has been mobilized with the objective of ensuring the safety and security of all individuals engaged. The stringent security measures are implemented not only for the protection of the audience but also for the safeguarding of the players, in accordance with the directives of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). Due to security concerns, this warm-up match will be conducted in the absence of any spectators.
