With less than a month until the ODI World Cup 2023, each of the ten participating nations is announcing their squads one by one. Afghanistan announced its 15-member squad for the impending World Cup, which begins in India on October 5th, on Wednesday, September 13. Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the squad, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ikram Alikhil are two wicketkeeper options.

The most notable addition is right-arm bowler Naveen-ul-Haq, who was left off the team's Asia Cup 2023 roster. Notably, Naveen is returning to the Afghanistan ODI squad after a two-year absence. In January 2021, he last participated in an ODI against Ireland in Abu Dhabi.
