Yashasvi Jaiswal's 21-year-old journey has not been at all simple. The young man has endured a variety of hardships, from peddling panipuri to living without a roof over his head. Nevertheless, given his aptitude, it was only a matter of time before he introduced himself to the world.
Jaiswal obtained his first India call-up for the ongoing multi-format series against the West Indies following his phenomenal performance for Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. In addition, the 21-year-old made his debut in the first Test of the series, and he performed as predicted.
Jaiswal made an immediate impact on his debut, scoring 171 runs off 387 deliveries while opening the batting alongside captain Rohit Sharma. In addition, it was disclosed that Jaiswal was quite emotional after the game when he called his father to tell him about his sensational century.
Reflecting on this, Jaiswal's father Bhupendra Jaiswal revealed that his son had called him very early in the morning, unable to contain his emotions as they shared a touching moment.
"He called around 4:30 a.m. (IST) on Day 2 after achieving his century. He could not control his emotions. I too shed tears. It was an emotionally charged occasion. He was unable to speak for a long time. He was weary. "He just asked me, 'Are you happy, father?'," the father of Jaiswal told Hindustan Times.
