Wahab Riaz retire from international cricket releasing emotional message for fans
"It was an honour for him to represent Pakistan for such a long time and is now ready to start a new chapter in franchise cricket" added Riaz.
Wahab Riaz has announced his retirement from international cricket to concentrate on franchise-based competitions. Notably, the 38-year-old has played in 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is for the national team and has taken 237 wickets in international cricket.
Riaz stated that it was an honour for him to represent Pakistan for such a long time and that he is now prepared to begin a new chapter in franchise cricket, where he hopes to entertain and inspire the spectators.
"Representing Pakistan on the international stage has been a great honour and privilege. Riaz stated in a press release, "As I close this chapter, I am excited to embark on a new journey in franchise cricket, where I hope to entertain and inspire audiences while competing against some of the best talents in the world."
The press release also stated that Riaz's decision was influenced by his unwavering faith in Pakistan's youthful cricketing talent. In 2008, the left-handed fast bowler made his international debut against Zimbabwe. On his début, he was phenomenal, taking two wickets and allowing only 19 runs in eight overs.
In contrast, he made his Test debut against England at The Oval two years later. The pacer was once again outstanding, claiming an outstanding five-wicket haul in the first innings and one in the second as the away team won by four wickets.
In the meantime, Riaz is no longer a part of Pakistan's plans, as the cricketer played his final international match in 2020 against New Zealand. In the interim, he has participated in numerous cricket franchise tournaments, including the PSL, where he is the leading bowler for Peshawar Zalmi. He also participates in the Bangladesh Premier League and the most recent iteration of the Sri Lanka Premier League.
