Sri Lanka to tour England for three Test match series next year
Sri Lanka will play three-match Test series against England in August 2024, with the matches set to be played at Old Trafford, Lord's and The Oval in August-September.
In August and September of 2024, Sri Lanka will travel to England for a three-match Test series that will be contested at Old Trafford, Lord's, and The Oval. England will play three more Tests against West Indies in July 2024 before taking on Sri Lanka under the leadership of Ben Stokes.
A senior official of Sri Lanka Cricket has already verified the news and stated that the team will honor their commitment and play the matches under the World Test Championship banner.
The official was quoted by Daily Mirror Online as saying, "Yes, we are committed to honoring the schedule provided by the ECB and will accordingly play three Test matches under the banner of the ICC's World Test Championship."
England began the previous World Test Championship with a loss to West Indies by a score of 1-0. Later, Joe Root was removed as captain of the Test squad, and Ben Stokes was named the new leader. During the Stokes era, England adopted an aggressive style of cricket, which has drastically altered their red-ball fortunes. England has been tremendously successful under the stewardship of Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum and will attempt to qualify for the WTC finals after failing to do so twice.
The team will travel to India for a five-match series early in 2024 and will regroup prior to the T20 World Cup in West Indies and the United States in June 2024. The ECB is also anticipated to schedule a few bilateral series for players who will not be participating in the Indian Premier League in order to maintain their readiness for the T20 tournament.
Sri Lanka was in contention to qualify for the WTC final last year but ultimately failed to do so after losing a decisive series to New Zealand. Consequently, the Sri Lankan Lions will be eager to qualify for the championship match this time around.
