Agarkar reportedly wants to finalize the core 20-player squad for the World Cup before the ODI series against India.
The forthcoming ODI World Cup will take place in just a few months. The tournament will commence on October 5, and the Indian team will begin its campaign on October 8 against Australia. India's probable squad combination for the championship could be one of the biggest topics of conversation leading up to the championship.
The newly appointed BCCI chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, will reportedly travel to the West Indies to meet with head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and senior players in order to map out a strategy and potential team combinations for the highly anticipated event.
Before the beginning of the ODI series between India and the West Indies, Agarkar reportedly intends to finalise the core 20-player World Cup squad. He is anticipated to arrive in Trinidad before the July 27 start of the ODI series.
A BCCI source with knowledge of the situation stated, "Salil Ankola is currently in the West Indies, but he will return after the Test series concludes. Ajit will join the team prior to the commencement of the white ball leg, a Hindustan Times official was quoted as saying.
Moreover, it is anticipated that there will be no significant roster surprises, as the most promising young players will be competing in the Asian Games in September and October.

The inclusion of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah may be one of the greatest talking points. Due to his injury, the 29-year-old has been absent from the national team for quite some time. With his return to training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), the Indian team will be hopeful that he will return to the bowling unit's leadership position.
In addition, star batsman KL Rahul could be included in the squad despite suffering a quadriceps injury while competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. The upcoming Asia Cup will provide a much clearer picture of India's squad composition, and it will be intriguing to see which team India employs in the multi-nation competition.
