Axar misses Out, Ravichandran Ashwin included In India’s World Cup Squad
The much awaited ODI World Cup 2023 is all set to start from October 5.
The Indian Cricket team has been forced to make a change to their World Cup 2023 squad due to the likelihood that left-arm spinner Axar Patel will require a prolonged recovery period. Notably, Patel sustained a left quadriceps complaint during the Super fours match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2023 and has been absent from the squad ever since.
Ravichandran Ashwin, a veteran off-spinner, has been named Patel's replacement in the squad. In the recent series against Australia, Ashwin made his return to the ODI side after a 21-month absence and excelled with the ball in the second ODI. Notably, Ashwin concluded as the joint-second-highest wicket-taker in the most recent series with four wickets in two innings at an average of 22 and an economy rate of 5.17.
Ashwin has participated in 115 ODIs and taken 155 wickets at an average of 33.20 with an economy of 4.80. The 37-year-old has extensive experience participating in major tournaments, having participated in both the 2011 and 2015 World Cups.
India World Cup 2023 squad:
