Andy Flower's head coach tenure ended with Lucknow Supergiants

Despite reaching consecutive Indian Premier League semifinals, the Lucknow Super Giants have decided to part ways with head coach Andy Flower. The franchise announced the news on Twitter, hailed the former Zimbabwean international for his service, and noted that he will remain a member of the LSG family.

In the meantime, Flower may not be the only member of the LSG to depart. Gautam Gambhir reportedly conducted discussions with the Kolkata Knight Riders, and a potential return is not ruled out. Notably, under the stewardship of the southpaw, KKR won the tournament in 2012 and 2014; therefore, the franchise appears eager to bring him back into the fold, as it has been nearly a decade since the team from the east last won the IPL.

According to Cricbuzz, however, former Australia international Justin Langer is the frontrunner to become the next head coach of Lucknow. In 2021, he won the T20 World Cup as a member of the Australian team. After the notorious sandpaper-gate scandal, which shook the nation, he has also helped the nation form a strong unit.

However, his relationship with Cricket Australia came to an acrimonious conclusion, and he has since assumed the role of a commentator. If he joins Lucknow, the former cricketer will seek to instill the team with a winning mentality based on his tremendous success as the coach of the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.

Under Flower, Lucknow was defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 IPL Eliminator and by Mumbai Indians in the 2023 IPL Eliminator. Nonetheless, the 55-year-old instilled a strong ethos within the team, and as a result, the KL Rahul-led squad was among the favorites to win the trophy in both of their years of existence. Next, the franchise intends to begin anew; consequently, more decisions of this nature can be anticipated.
