WTC Final: 100 Test catches for Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane took his 100th Test catch to dismiss Australia captain Pat Cummins in the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 at The Oval in London. The Australians concluded their first innings on Day 2 with a score of 469 runs.

Notably, Mohammed Siraj delivered the final two blows to terminate Australia's magnificent innings by dismissing Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins. On the third delivery of the 122nd over, Siraj bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off, which Cummins smashed direct to extra-cover. 

In doing so, Rahane accomplished a remarkable feat in the longest format by securing his 100th catch. Notably, former India captain Rahul Dravid retains the record for most catches in a fielding position in Test cricket with 209.

Notably, Siraj took four wickets for 108 runs in 28.3 overs, whereas Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami each took two wickets. Travis Head, a flamboyant southpaw, scored the most runs for the Australians with 163 runs off 174 balls, including 25 fours and one six.

Steve Smith scored his 31st century, finishing with 121 runs off 268 balls. Smith now has eight centuries, second only to Sachin Tendulkar's eleven. Alex Carey and David Warner concluded with respective scores of 48 and 43 runs. With 469 runs scored in the first innings, Australia will be looking to extend their dominance when India bats.
