Australia has not won an Ashes series on English territory for more than two decades. The team led by Pat Cummins is on the verge of greatness in 2023, as they are presently 2-0 up in the ongoing five-match series. Australian batting star Steve Smith stated that it had always been his ambition to win an Ashes series away from home. Notably, the legendary cricketer will play his 100th Test match at Headingley, and as such, the 34-year-old desires a magnificent victory.

Notably, in the 2019 edition of the premier series, Ben Stokes and England's No. 11 Jack Leach pulled off a feat that helped England win from a precarious position. The current captain of the Three Lions contributed 76 runs to a partnership that helped the home team prevail by one wicket. Smith stated that he did not appreciate Stokes' innings at all due to the fact that the cricketer was unable to participate due to a concussion.

"I did not appreciate that in the least. In this game, merely observing the Ben Stokes spectacle nearly occurred once more. To be able to walk out at Headingley, it will be a great occasion for me to reach 100 games," Smith told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"Very few individuals have done so in the Australian system. There have been 15 or 16 total. To reach that number is a remarkable accomplishment. To win an Ashes series in England has been on my wish list for a long time. If I could do it in my 100th game, it would certainly be something remarkable," he added.

Smith has been phenomenal with the bat in the current series. In the second Test, the legendary batsman scored a magnificent century, which assisted the away team in scoring 416 runs in the first innings. Even during the second innings, the cricketer appeared to be in excellent form, as Australia won the match by a score of 43 runs.
