Sri Lanka and Pakistan are scheduled to begin their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 campaigns with a two-match Test series beginning on July 16. While the island nation finished fifth in the previous cycle's (2021-23) points table, Babar Azam's Pakistan had to settle for seventh place in the standings. 

Both teams will be seeking favorable results in the upcoming Test series to launch their WTC campaigns with a flourish. The two Tests will take place, respectively, at the Galle International Stadium and the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

Speaking of their head-to-head records, both teams have played 57 Tests against one another, with Pakistan prevailing 21 times, Sri Lankan Lions prevailing 17 times, and 19 matches ending in a draw. In terms of the forthcoming Tests, Pakistan have been strengthened by the return of speed merchant Shaheen Afridi, who played his last Test in July 2022.

Shaheen will be eager to claim his 100th Test scalp in the upcoming series. He currently has 99 Test scalps. The think center has also supported the inclusion of uncapped players Muhammad Huraira and Aamer Jamal.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, has named their squad for the first Test, which includes Dilshan Madushanka, Prabath Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis, Kamindu Mendis, Praveen Jayawickrema, and the uncapped Lakshitha Manasinghe.
