Shubman Gill Out or Not Out Fans Erupt Furious

On Saturday, after Australia set India a 444-run target on a difficult pitch in the World Test Championship final at The Oval, social media exploded over the dismissal of Shubman Gill. At the stroke of Tea, Scott Boland got one to ricochet a little extra from length, and at the shoulder of Gill's bat, the ball was caught by a diving Cameron Green at gully. It was the second time in the game that Green had taken a screamer, though replays indicated that the ball was very near to the ground.

Carey (66 not out off 105) and Mitchell Starc (51 not out off 47) displayed aggressive intent by combining for a 93-run stand off 120 deliveries for the seventh wicket on Day 4. Before Pat Cummins declared the innings following his own dismissal, they scored 69 valuable runs off 87 deliveries.

Given that 263 is the highest fourth innings pursuit at The Oval and 418 overall in Test history, the timing of the declaration was questionable.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill appeared to be at ease against Cummins and Boland. Gill ultimately lost to Boland. Rohit began against Cummins with a pull shot before striking him past the mid-on fielder in the subsequent over. Rohit's six over fine leg off Mitchell Starc's second ball of the opening over energized the entire Indian audience.

India picked up a pair of wickets in the first session of the fourth and final day of the World Test Championship, but Australia chugged along to extend their overall lead to 374 runs after reaching 201 for six at lunch on day four.

Australia fought valiantly to score 78 runs in 26 overs during the morning session. On the warmest morning of the match, the pitch continued to provide seamers and spinners with ample opportunities.

Australia, which began the day at 123 for four, lost Marnus Labuschagne (41/126) in the third over. Umesh Yadav (2/32 in 12 overs) bowled an exquisite delivery that pitched around off-stump and cut away from the Australian batsman, preventing him from adding to his overnight score.

Given that the ball had been in play for 44 overs, Umesh and Shami began India's innings by seeking reverse swing in arid and hot conditions. On Saturday, the ball was taking off or skidding through from a specific location on length from the pavilion end, which kept the batters guessing.

Mohammed Siraj, who has caused the most trouble for the Australian batters in the tournament, got one to kick off the tee and hit Green's right shoulder.

After eight overs, Ravindra Jadeja (3/45 in 18 overs) was introduced into the attack, and his strategy was clear: get the ball to turn sharply from outside the leg stump. Green offered a large stride to perform a forward defensive stroke, but the ball bounced slightly more and hit his glove before bouncing on to strike the stumps.

As a precaution, Ajinkya Rahane, who was struck on the finger while batting, did not enter the field.
