Muttiah Muralidaran names his favourites for World Cup 2023

Muttiah Muralidaran, a legendary spinner, believes that India, Australia, and England are the favorites to win the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to commence on October 5. He added that any other team could enter the competition at any moment to make it more intriguing, and could very well win the prestigious trophy.

The former cricketer also emphasized that fate plays a significant role in all mega-events. He recalled that in the 2019 edition, New Zealand was the favorite to win the trophy, but England won their first-ever ODI World Cup under the leadership of Eoin Morgan.

"So, I would say India, England, Australia, and the fourth team can be anyone. These three have better odds. However, you never know; cricket is a game of chance. Muralidaran was quoted by India Today as saying, "As we saw in the previous World Cup, we believed New Zealand would win, but England won the trophy due to good fortune."

The 51-year-old also believes that subcontinental sides will have an advantage due to their familiarity with spin-friendly conditions.

"Certainly, subcontinental teams will have an advantage due to the spin-friendly wickets and their batters' familiarity with playing spin," the former cricketer said.

Muralidaran discusses his forthcoming biopic.

Muralidaran was the most recent cricketer to have a biopic produced. Speaking about this, the Kandy-born cricketer expressed his happiness and excitement and complimented the filmmakers for basing a film on him. Muralitharan also clarified that he read the movie's screenplay and ensured that it contained only true facts and no embellishment.

"I am extremely elated and content. Many thanks to those who have made this possible. Not to give anything away, but it is not entirely based on my cricket career. It consists of 20% cricket and 80% human drama. It's about the challenges I've encountered in life and how I've overcome them," he added.
