MS Dhoni, captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), successfully underwent surgery on his knee, which had plagued him throughout the IPL 2023. On May 31, the 41-year-old was admitted to the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai for treatment.

Dhoni played the entire IPL season with his left knee severely strapped and preferred to bat as late as No. 8. After the conclusion of the IPL 2023, he resolved to seek treatment in Mumbai with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, a sports medicine specialist who had previously operated on Rishabh Pant for a similar condition.

On Thursday, June 1st, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that he spoke with the 41-year-old after his surgery and that he'sounded alright'. However, the captain will remain in the hospital for a few more days for follow-up examinations before being released.

"I spoke with him after the surgery. I cannot disclose the nature of the operation, but we have been informed that it is a keyhole procedure. Cricbuzz quoted Viswanathan as saying, "He sounded fine in our conversation."

My eyes were brimming with tears, and I realized I must enjoy this: Dhoni

After an exhilarating last-ball victory against Gujarat Titans on Monday, May 29, CSK matched their record-tying fifth championship. Following the victory, Dhoni alluded to a possible return and acknowledged that returning to the IPL would be the more difficult option. He also conveyed that he was overcome with emotion after the miraculous victory and that he needed to savor the moment.

"In search of an answer? This is the ideal opportunity for my retirement announcement. The quantity of love I have received, however, is astounding. "The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be to work hard for the next nine months and attempt to play in another IPL," Dhoni said during the post-match presentation.

It would be a gift from me, but it would be difficult on the body. The first game I played for CSK, everyone was chanting my name. My eyes were dripping, so I needed to take a break in the dugout. I realized I must take pleasure in this. I believe they adore me for who I am, because I am so grounded and don't pretend to be someone I'm not. Just keep it straightforward," added Dhoni.
